Plateau State Government Announces New Metro Bus Routes – Flight Routes

The Plateau State Government has announced that the recent acquisition of 15 additional buses for the Tin City Metro fleet will enable it to provide subsidized transportation services to thousands of daily commuters within the Jos–Bukuru Metropolis. These services will offer fares significantly cheaper than those of regular commercial transport.

This was disclosed by the Honorable Commissioner for Transport, Jatau Davou Gyang, during the ongoing Plateau State Government Ministerial Press Briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Communication. The briefing marks the two-year anniversary of the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and is being held at the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos.

Commissioner Jatau revealed plans to extend Metro Bus operations to new routes, including Angul-D – Vom, Zawan – Plapoly – Barkin Ladi, Rukuba Road – Agingi – 3 Division, and Bukuru – JUTH, among others.

He stated: “With the existing metro buses, we will no longer have the kind of overcrowding we currently experience. There will be a reduction in that. Additionally, there are other routes that had not been previously covered. Now, we have the opportunity to introduce new routes such as Rukuba Road to Rukuba Barracks, the Bukuru axis to Vom, and the JUTH axis. Several new routes are being introduced.”

On the cost of commuting, Jatau added “From the express to Terminus, a commercial taxi from Angul-D to Terminus costs about ₦1,200. But with the Metro Bus, the same distance costs just ₦200. That’s a round trip of ₦2,400 for commercial taxis, compared to ₦400 using the Metro Bus.”

Jatau highlighted the successes of the state’s partnership with ValueJet, which has significantly enhanced air travel on the Jos–Abuja and Jos–Lagos routes, thereby attracting more tourists and investors to the state.

He also noted that, through the intervention of the Mutfwang administration, the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang is now equipped to accommodate all types of aircraft.

These initiatives are part of the Mutfwang administration’s broader vision to improve access to the state and promote economic growth through tourism and investment.

The commissioner concluded by noting that the government is working toward opening air travel routes to the South-East, South-West, South-South, and other parts of the North. He was accompanied by the Group Managing Director of Plateau Express Service Samuel Gwott.

Other heads of MDAs who presented their scorecards at the press briefing include the host, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap; Head of Civil Service, Plateau State, Mr. Steven Pam Gadongs; Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Muhammed Salihu Nyalun; and Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, Hon. Peter Nyam Gai. The press briefing is expected to continue tomorrow, Wednesday, 21st May 2025, with other MDAs scheduled to present their scorecards.
