Jos, May 23, 2025 – The Plateau State Government has announced that 159 mining operators have been cleared to resume activities following a temporary suspension of all mining across the state that began five months ago. This was disclosed by the Governor of Plateau State Barrister Caleb Mutfwang while addressing journalists at the old government house rayfield.
The suspension, introduced on February 21, 2025, acvording to the Governor aimed to regulate the mining sector, improve security, and address social issues linked to unregulated mining. After a thorough screening process by a technical committee, the government has approved 159 companies, including holders of mining licenses, exploration permits, artisanal mining permits, quarry leases, and stock buying centers.
Governor Mutfwang cautioned that the suspension remains in effect for any operators not on the approved list, urging compliance to ensure sustainable and responsible mining practices, adding that government will publish the list of cleared operators and has instructed them to collect official clearance letters to resume operations legally.
