“Cleaning Up the Narrative”: Plateau Media Aides Celebrate Social Media Day 2025 with Sanitation Drive and Project Tour in Honor of Governor Mutfwang

As part of activities marking the 2025 Plateau Social Media Day with the theme “Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s Two Years in Office: Connecting the People of Plateau State to Good Governance”, the media aides to the Executive Governor undertook a series of civic engagements and project inspections in honor of the Governor’s two-year anniversary in office.

The two-day celebration, held on June 27th and 28th, was not only symbolic but action-driven, reinforcing the role of young people—particularly those active on social media—as agents of change, unity, and development in Plateau State.

The commemoration began on Friday, June 27, with a novelty football match at the Jos City Park, Little Rayfield Jos. The game featured Team Plateau State Executive and Team Plateau State ALGON, drawing a crowd of government officials, youth leaders, and supporters. The friendly match served as a metaphor for the unity and cooperation that have become the hallmark of the Mutfwang administration.

On Saturday, June 28, the media aides took their civic commitment a step further by participating in a voluntary environmental sanitation exercise around the Jos North Council Secretariat. They were joined by the Director General of the Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), Mr. Samuel Dapiya, the Executive Chairman of Jos North LGC, Barrister J.K. Chris, and a dynamic group of female supporters of the Governor.

The group cleared gutters, removed refuse, and sensitized residents on the importance of keeping their environments clean—particularly in the flood-prone Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

Mr. Samuel Dapiya, DG PEPSA, lauded the effort of the media aides:

“For me, this is the highest form of patriotism. These young media aides have taken the initiative to clean up the environment without enforcement. It shows leadership and a commitment to Governor Mutfwang’s vision for a healthier Plateau.”

He further challenged youths across the state—regardless of political or regional affiliations—to emulate the action: “All 17 LGAs should learn from this. We can all contribute to making Plateau State clean, beautiful, and safe.”

Also speaking at the exercise, Barrister J.K. Chris, Chairman of Jos North LGC, praised the initiative and linked it to disaster prevention and good governance:

“This is more than a cleanup—it’s a visionary act. By opening up our drainages and clearing refuse, we’re actively preventing flooding. I commend the media aides and our die-hard female supporters for aligning with His Excellency’s sanitation agenda.”

The Director General of the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA), Engr. Dominic Datong Gwaman, highlighted the importance of using social media to amplify truth and progress.

“Today is a special day. It’s not just about sanitation or project inspections—it’s about redefining how we use social media,” said Engr. Gwaman. “We thank these media aides for sharing the real story of Plateau: the development, the dedication, and the vision of Governor Mutfwang. Let’s use social media to tell the truth and challenge false narratives.”

After the sanitation exercise, the media aides boarded a Metro Bus, in a symbolic display of the improved public transportation system, and embarked on a project tour showcasing completed and ongoing infrastructural developments under Governor Mutfwang’s administration.

Projects inspected include:

* Tudun Wada–Kabong and Kabong–Mining Junction Road
* Rehabilitation of the Jenta Road Network
* Ongoing Rehabilitation of Plateau Hotel
* Completed Uton Kong Bridge – Abattoir Overhead Bridge and Road Network
* New Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) Bukuru Market
* Recently acquired additional Metro Buses
* Renovation of Tati Hotel

The tour provided an opportunity for media aides to document and disseminate verifiable achievements of the administration, countering misinformation and giving citizens a transparent view of governance outcomes.

The 2025 Plateau Social Media Day marks a shift in how young people and government communicators engage with governance—moving from passive commentary to active involvement. The initiative by the Governor’s media team not only set a new standard for responsible social media advocacy but also reaffirmed the administration’s focus on inclusive development, community participation, and environmental responsibility.

As Governor Caleb Mutfwang marks two years in office, the media aides’ actions on Social Media Day offered a compelling reminder: clean narratives begin with clean actions.
