Gov Mutfwang presents Staff of Office to the New Long Kwo

The Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally presented the staff of office to Miskoom Amb. Yahaya Kwande Kwalgroom II on second Class status, officially installing him as the 28th Long Kwo of Kwo Chiefdom.



The ceremony took place on Wednesday 17th July, 2025 in Kwande town of Qaan-pan Local Government Area.

The Governor described the occasion as not only historic, but symbolic and significant to the Time is Now Administration, adding that the traditional institution remains a cornerstone of people cultural identity and social harmony.

He said his administration since assumption of office made a clear commitment to revitalized the traditional institution as an essential partner in governance and grassroot development.

Gov Mutfwang further stated that, “we recognize that a strong respected and functional Traditional institution is vital for peace building, community development and the safeguarding of our cherished heritage”.

The Governor commended the leadership and people of Kwo Chiefdom and the Quaan- pan Local Government Area, Traditional Council for the orderly and peaceful, manner in which they managed the transition following the demise of the late Long Kwo and called on other communities facing similar transition to emulate.

He called on the new monarch to use his wealth of experience, exposure and God – given leadership qualities to uphold the values of justice, fairness, tolerance and unity through out his reign and urged his people to give him the needed support to succeed.

Earlier in his remarks, the Plateau State commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Ephraim Usman Gar, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Yakubu Ishaya Mallo commended Governor Mutfwang for given communities in Plateau State free hand to select their traditional rulers without interference and commended the Kwo Chiefdom for successful selection of the New Long Kwo.

In his speech, the representative of the Plateau State council of Chiefs and Emirs and the Long Goemai of Shendam, His Royal Highness, Miskoom Martins Shaldas III, described Kwo Chiefdom as a historical landmark in the Goemai nation. He acknowledged its cultural uniqueness and enduring contribution to the heritage of the Goemai people.

In their separate Goodwill Messages, Chairman of Quaan- pan Local Government Council Hon. Christopher Manship Audu and the national president of Goemai unity and development organization Miskoom Albert Alkali hailed the peaceful selection process that led to the emergence of the New Long Kwo.

In his acceptance speech, His Royal Highness Miskoom Amb. Yahaya Kwande Kwalgroom II thanked God for the opportunity to be enthroned as the 28th Long Kwo.

He promised to serve the people with humility, integrity and honesty as well as unite the people towards a common destiny.
