Prof. Chris Kwaja Applauds Military Overhaul of Security Operations in Plateau State

The Special Envoy on Peace and Security to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Professor Chris Kwaja, has commended the Nigerian military for its decisive efforts to reform internal security operations across the state.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, Prof. Kwaja praised the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for launching Operation Enduring Peace, a newly rebranded military initiative aimed at improving peace enforcement in Plateau State. The operation replaces Operation Safe Haven, which had been active in the region for over two decades.

Describing the move as a “step in the right direction,” Prof. Kwaja said the overhaul is expected to yield tangible results, particularly in light of recent criticisms over the military’s handling of organized criminal threats in the region. He also referenced the prior deployment of a special military assessment team led by Air Vice Marshal M.N. Onyebashe as a precursor to the restructuring.

“This proactive step by the military should help rebuild public trust and foster stronger community collaboration,” Kwaja said.

He further called for the full implementation of the new strategy, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination between security agencies and local communities to ensure the long-term success of Operation Enduring Peace.

Prof. Kwaja concluded by stating that a “whole-of-society approach” remains vital in addressing security challenges and safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Plateau citizens.
