Former supporters of Brigadier General John Sura (Rtd.), under the platform of the defunct ‘Liberation Movement’, have distanced themselves from his recent resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and his conseqent defection to APC, declaring their total loyalty to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Friday in Jos by the group, the former supporters said they were shocked to learn of their former principal’s resignation through his social media post, noting that he took the decision “without any form of consultation with his followers.”

“We wish to state categorically clear that we remain resolute and absolutely committed to our amiable political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the statement read. “We are fully dedicated to promoting the ethics, people-oriented policies and philosophies of our dear party, and to supporting His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State.”

The group explained that Brig. Gen. Sura, who contested the PDP governorship primaries in 2022 but lost to Governor Mutfwang, had been accorded several opportunities by the governor after the elections to collaborate in governance.
“After the swearing-in of Governor Mutfwang, he made conscious efforts to interface with Brig. Gen. Sura, extending a hand of brotherhood,” the statement added. “He requested names of some of his followers for consideration in government, appointed him Secretary of a sensitive committee on rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs, and discussed modalities for unity in the spirit of ‘no winner, no vanquished’.”

According to the statement, Sura, however, failed to nominate any of his supporters for appointments or engagement, and subsequently cut off communication with them.
The former Liberation Movement members condemned what they described as the “careless attitude” of their former principal, accusing him of abandoning those who invested their time and resources in his political ambition.
They reaffirmed their allegiance to the PDP and pledged to work for the re-election of Governor Mutfwang in 2027 under a new banner named “Re-Elect Mutfwang Again (REMA 2027)”.

“We have uprightly and jointly taken a stand to be relentlessly loyal to the government of the day,” the group said. “Governor Mutfwang has shown the qualities once seen in Brig. Gen. Sura — security intelligence, youth empowerment, administrative accountability and patriotic discipline.”
The statement highlighted several initiatives of the Mutfwang administration, including the training of Agro Rangers, recruitment into Operation Rainbow, integration of vigilantes and hunters into community security, empowerment of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, establishment of the State Security and Information Centre, and the Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Programme (P-YAEP).

It also cited ongoing projects such as the introduction of Metro Buses, upgrading of health facilities, rural electrification, and extensive road construction across the state.
“We sincerely respect Brig. Gen. John Sura’s decision to part ways with the PDP, but we disassociate ourselves completely from his political direction,” the statement concluded. “Our loyalty remains with the PDP, Governor Mutfwang, and the good people of Plateau State.”
