The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed strong confidence in its ability to take over leadership from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition parties in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the party’s North-Central Zonal Caucus meeting held in Nasarawa State, the National Vice Chairman of the SDP for the North Central region, Abubakar Dogara, said the party is gaining momentum and winning the hearts of Nigerians nationwide.

“We are mobilizing across all levels — from national to ward, state to local government,” Dogara said. “Our membership numbers keep increasing, to the extent that we’ve run out of membership cards in several states. This is evidence that SDP is now the people’s choice.”
According to Dogara, the party is undergoing strategic preparations to take over national leadership, stating that the SDP has become “the bride of the nation.”
“In fact,” he added humorously, “even members of the media might soon find themselves joining our ranks.”
Dogara emphasized that one of the key resolutions from the caucus meeting is the protection of the party’s structure and integrity. He stated that the SDP will no longer allow external influences to weaken its internal frameworks.
Calling on Nigerians to support the party’s vision, Dogara urged citizens to join the SDP by registering at all levels as outlined in the party’s constitution.
“The SDP is the true alternative for Nigeria. The current ruling party has failed to meet constitutional obligations related to the people’s welfare and security,” he noted.
In support, the Benue State Chairman of the SDP, Idoko Idoto, expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned to win in Benue and beyond.
“SDP has a strong history in Benue State. We’ve governed before, and we’re preparing to return with even greater strength. In 2027, we are coming to reclaim the state, win senatorial seats, and secure major representation in both the House of Representatives and the State Assembly,” Idoto affirmed.
The party also extended appreciation to Prince Adewale Adebayo and Hon. Femi Olaniyi Ferrari (the COC) for their unwavering support.
