International Day of Peace 2025: HRH Dr. Selky Kile Torughedi Calls for Renewed Efforts Towards Sustainable Peace

The Eyewei (V) of Azzuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, and the Amanyanabo of the FCT Abuja, His Royal Highness, Dr. Selky Kile Torughedi, has called on the government and all stakeholders across Nigeria to intensify efforts toward sustaining peace in the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday to mark the International Day of Peace 2025, Dr. Torughedi emphasized that sustainable peace remains a critical pillar for boosting investor confidence and guaranteeing long-term economic prosperity.

Aligning his message with this year’s theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” the Southern Ijaw monarch highlighted the importance of both individual and collective actions in fostering peace, solidarity, and sustainable development—key strategies outlined by the United Nations and the World Economic Forum for preventing conflict and reducing inequality.

He particularly urged Nigerian youths, especially those in the Niger Delta region, to remain committed to peace-building efforts. According to him, the relative peace currently enjoyed in the region has already led to increased economic activities, and maintaining that stability will further accelerate national development.

“It is only under a peaceful atmosphere that our nation can thrive,” the monarch said.

HRH Dr. Torughedi’s message serves as a timely reminder of the role grassroots leadership and youth engagement play in securing a peaceful and prosperous future for Nigeria.
