Jos, Plateau State – March 15, 2026 — The All Progressives Congress (APC) Plateau State Chapter has strongly condemned the renewed violence in parts of Kanam Local Government Area, expressing deep shock and profound sadness over a tragic bandit ambush that claimed the lives of no fewer than 20 brave defenders, including military personnel and local vigilantes.
In a statement signed by Hon. Wumanna Bako, Publicity Secretary of the APC Plateau State Chapter, and released from Kalwa House on Yakubu Gowon Way, Jos, the party described the attack on a combined patrol team of security forces and community vigilantes in the Garga–Wanka axis—including communities such as Garga, Kyaram, Gyambau, and neighbouring areas—as a heinous incident.
Reports indicate the patrol came under heavy ambush by bandits during routine operations, resulting in the supreme sacrifice of gallant patriots dedicated to protecting innocent citizens and safeguarding lives and property.
“The Plateau APC deeply mourns these gallant patriots whose dedication to duty and commitment to the safety of our communities will never be forgotten,” the statement read. “Their sacrifice stands as a solemn reminder of the immense price being paid daily by security forces and community volunteers in the effort to safeguard our nation.”
The party extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the affected communities, and the people of Kanam LGA, while sympathizing with the Plateau State government over the painful loss.
Commending the courage and resilience of security agencies and local vigilantes confronting criminal elements, the APC called on relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the affected areas, bring perpetrators to justice, and make the protection of lives and property a collective priority.
“At this difficult moment, we urge the people of Kanam and neighbouring communities to remain calm, united, and cooperative with security agencies as efforts continue to restore normalcy,” it added.
The statement reiterated the APC’s solidarity with the resilient people of Kanam and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the fallen heroes, emphasizing that “their sacrifice must never be in vain.”
This condemnation comes amid reports from community groups like the Kanam Development Association (KADA) confirming the ambush occurred on Friday (March 13, 2026), with death tolls cited around 20 (including 12 security personnel—among them two senior military officers—and eight vigilantes), and subsequent looting and cattle rustling in nearby Kyaram.
The APC’s message highlights bipartisan concern over persistent insecurity in Plateau State’s border communities, urging sustained action for lasting peace.
Our thoughts remain with the families of the fallen and the people of Kanam during this tragic time. May peace return swiftly to the affected communities.
