Youths under the auspices of the ‘Coalition of Pankshin-Kanke Native Youths’ in Plateau State have unequivocally reaffirmed their support for the sustenance of the existing zoning arrangement governing the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal House of Representatives seat, describing it as the only viable framework for equity, unity, and political stability within the constituency.

In a communiqué signed by Roshak Golmut, the Coalition declared the zoning formula “non-negotiable,” insisting that, in line with the established rotational principle, the seat must move from Kanam Local Government Area to either Pankshin or Kanke Local Government Areas ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group noted that Kanam LGA would have cumulatively held the seat for twelve years by 2027, compared to eight years each for Pankshin and Kanke, warning that any attempt to extend the tenure in Kanam would disrupt the long-standing balance and undermine fairness within the constituency.
Reaffirming the historical relevance of rotational representation since 1999, the Coalition stressed that the arrangement has been instrumental in preventing political friction and ensuring inclusive governance across the three LGAs.

The group recalled that Hon. Josiah Yunana Gobum (Kanke LGA) represented the constituency from 1999–2003, followed by Rev. Musa Labar Wuyep (Kanam LGA – Dengi) from 2003–2007. He was succeeded by Hon. Leonard Dilkon (Pankshin LGA – Pankshin South), who served until 2011, after which Dr. Timothy Golu (Kanke LGA) held the seat up to 2019. The position is currently occupied by Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (Kanam LGA – Kantana), who is serving his second consecutive term.

The youths cautioned political parties and stakeholders against subverting the zoning structure, stating that any deviation would be firmly resisted through legitimate political means, including withdrawal of support and active opposition to candidates or parties that disregard the collective will of the people.
“This is not a threat; it is a commitment to justice, fairness, and the preservation of our unity,” the statement emphasized.
The Coalition further urged all eligible voters, particularly youths, to update their records through the INEC Continuous Voter Registration process in preparation for active participation in the 2027 elections.

While recognizing the constitutional rights of all aspirants, the group advised political parties to zone their tickets to candidates from Pankshin and Kanke LGAs and pledged to mobilize only for credible candidates who demonstrate competence, integrity, and a youth-focused agenda.
The statement also called on stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders to support the resolution in the interest of peace, equity, and sustained harmony across the constituency.
