Chief Ephraim Usman Gar Commends Public Complaints Commission, Women in Politics

The Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, in Plateau State, Hon. Abbas Abdullahi Garba has pledged the Commission’s commitment to promoting good governance and accountability in Plateau State. Hon. Garba stated this during a courtesy visit to the management of the Plateau State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Jos.

In a statement by the Information Officer of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Edward Bulus Damwesh, it was noted that the Federal Commissioner said that the Public Complaints Commission was established in 1975 by the military government of General Yakubu Gowon to serve as an independent watchdog against administrative injustice, abuse of power, and corruption in public institutions.

Garba stressed that one of the mandates of the Commission is to investigate administrative injustice, corruption, and abuse of office, and to ensure that citizens get fair treatment from public institutions. He called for stronger collaboration between the Commission and the Ministry to address complaints from the grassroots.

In his response, Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman Gar commended the Commission for the visionary role it has played since its establishment. He stated that no government can succeed without listening to the complaints of the people and addressing them promptly and advised the commission to embark on educating the citizens of Plateau State on its activities.

Similarly, the Plateau State Forum of Female Elected Councillors was at the Ministry to, according to its leader, Noro Davou Gandung, identify with the ministry and to pledge their total loyalty to the present government. Responding, the Commissioner said Governor Caleb Mutfwang has consistently involved women in his government. Hon. Usman added that women play a critical role in politics and must be carried along for development to be meaningful.
