The Plateau State Government, through the Food & Nutrition Unit of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, is set to commence a Food and Nutrition Symposium focused on strengthening the implementation of the N774i programme across the state. The symposium, themed “Peer Review Mechanism in Advancing N774i in Plateau State,” is scheduled to hold from August 20 to 29, 2026, with activities commencing daily at 9:00 a.m.

The programme will take place at three venue across the three Senatorial Zones of the State, with Shendam Local Government Secretariat for Southern Zone, Pankshin Local Government Secretariat for Central Zone and Jos South Local Government Secretariat Northern Zone. It is expected to bring together relevant stakeholders to deliberate on key issues affecting the implementation and impact of the N774i initiative.

According to the Food & Nutrition Unit of the Ministry for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, the symposium will focus on the challenges, possible solutions and prospects of N774i, with particular emphasis on peer review as a mechanism for improving accountability, coordination and results at the local government level. The initiative is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, identify gaps and develop practical approaches towards improving food and nutrition outcomes in communities across Plateau State.

The Ministry also emphasised the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in achieving sustainable development, in line with the state’s commitment to “Working Together for Peace, Progress and Prosperity.” The symposium is expected to attract government officials, local government representatives, community stakeholders and other actors involved in food, nutrition and local development, as discussions seek to chart a more effective path for advancing the N774i programme in Plateau State.

The Nutrition 774 Initiative (N774i) is a federal government program launched to combat child and maternal malnutrition across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria. Led by the Office of the Vice President and the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, it uses a grassroots, multi-sectoral approach to improve health, food access, and community accountability.
