…Promises issue-based, peaceful campaign; highlights achievements in security, education, transportation and economic reliefPlateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, calling on members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work collectively to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in the state.

The inauguration, held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Government House, Rayfield, Jos, brought together party leaders, political stakeholders and campaign coordinators to commence coordinated mobilisation for the 2027 general elections. Governor Mutfwang, who expressed appreciation to the people of Plateau State for their support and confidence in his administration, said his government had recorded progress in critical sectors but acknowledged that more work remained to be done.

He maintained that his administration deserved another mandate to consolidate ongoing projects and programmes, stressing that governance was a continuous process requiring consistency and sustained commitment. “There is no government that ends everything. Every government is a relay. Our duty is not to make others look bad; it is to see how we can collectively make Plateau State look better,” he said.

On security, the Governor acknowledged the challenges confronting the state but assured residents that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property through sustained and coordinated interventions. He disclosed that plans were underway to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral communities. He also announced plans to commission another batch of retrained Operation Rainbow personnel and deploy at least 800 trained forest guards to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.

Mutfwang urged residents to remain patient and support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace across the state. Addressing the economic situation, the Governor acknowledged the hardship occasioned by ongoing economic reforms but defended the policies of the Tinubu administration, noting that Nigeria required time to overcome longstanding fiscal and structural challenges. He also highlighted some interventions introduced by his administration to cushion the effects of economic hardship, including the Tin City Metro buses, revival of rail services within the metropolis, a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions and a 300 per cent increase in student allowances.

The Governor further stressed the importance of party unity and grassroots mobilisation, urging campaign council members to return to their respective wards, constituencies and local government areas to engage voters and communicate the achievements and programmes of the APC-led governments. “The votes are in the polling unit. They are not in Jos. Everybody can only matter in the locality where you come from,” he declared. He charged members of the campaign council to conduct themselves with humility, honesty and respect for opposing political interests, insisting that the campaign must be factual, issue-based and peaceful.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, Sir Joseph N. Ari, KSM, KSS, OON, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the council. Ari pledged that the campaign would be driven by discipline, teamwork, effective organisation and inclusive community engagement. He disclosed that the council had received expressions of support from 115 support groups, alongside solidarity visits and assurances from traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and other organised groups.

He, however, emphasised that achieving the party’s objectives would require collective responsibility, strategic coordination and sustained engagement with communities across the state. The campaign Director-General assured that the council would pursue a factual, issue-based and peaceful campaign devoid of bitterness and acrimony. He also called on APC supporters and Plateau residents to turn out en masse on November 14, 2026, to welcome President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other national party leaders during their scheduled visit to the state.

In his remarks, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. Bature emphasised the need for strong grassroots structures, loyalty, effective communication and accountability, urging members of the campaign council to remain committed and avoid complacency. He assured that the party remained open to accommodating additional stakeholders as preparations for the elections gathered momentum.
