The Nigerian Army has announced plans to conduct its annual field training exercise, codenamed Exercise MUGUN BUGU V, also known as OPERATION GARKUWAN DAJI, in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The exercise, scheduled to take place from November 6 to 19, 2026, is part of the Army’s annual training activities aimed at enhancing the operational preparedness and combat capabilities of its personnel.
In a press release issued by the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kontagora, and signed by Major Godfrey Abakpa, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the Army urged members of the public, particularly residents of Alkaleri and surrounding communities, not to panic during the exercise.
The statement explained that residents might hear sounds of gunfire and explosives or witness the movement of large numbers of troops and military equipment to designated training areas.
The Army further reassured the public that adequate security measures had been put in place to safeguard lives and property throughout the exercise.
Residents, farmers, herders and commuters operating within the affected areas are therefore advised to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel during the training period.
The Army also called on media organisations and other relevant stakeholders to disseminate the announcement widely to ensure that members of the public are adequately informed ahead of the exercise.
