The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has clarified its stance on the recent directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) mandating compensation for poor network service, stating that the policy was not influenced by any individual comment or recent public agitation.
In a statement signed by its National Vice President, Ahmad Mallawa, the association said the directive is the result of a long-standing regulatory process initiated by the NCC.
The student body noted that the Commissionās position on consumer protection and service accountability had been clearly established as far back as March 29, 2026, stressing that it is misleading for anyone to claim personal credit for the development.
According to the statement, the directive reflects institutional planning and sustained regulatory review by the NCC, rather than a reaction to recent public discourse.
NANS cautioned against the spread of narratives that seek to personalise national policy achievements, warning that such claims undermine the credibility of established institutions.
It commended the NCC for its proactive approach to consumer protection, emphasizing that the regulatory body deserves full recognition for the directive.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to responsible advocacy, truth, and ensuring that due credit is accorded in matters of public policy.
