The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has ushered in a new chapter of youth leadership following the emergence of Umar Baba-Yaro as the National Speaker of the Assembly for its 5th Republic, in a keenly contested election held in Abuja. The victory was achieved under the strategic leadership of Hon. Mustapha Obaje, Director General of the Umar Baba-Yaro Campaign Council, whose coordination and commitment played a central role in the campaign.

Baba-Yaro, who received the backing of Kaduna State Governor, His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, secured victory over his opponent by a significant margin, reflecting the support he garnered from delegates representing the 36 states of the federation.

Speaking shortly after the announcement of the election results, Hon. Obaje expressed heartfelt appreciation to the delegates for their participation, dedication, and confidence in the campaign. He described the outcome as a reflection of the collective aspirations of Nigerian youths for purposeful representation, inclusive leadership, and a stronger platform for youth participation in national development.

“We are immensely grateful to our delegates from every corner of the country who stood firm to deliver this victory. This election reflects the collective will of Nigerian youths to champion visionary leadership,” Obaje said. He further called on Nigerian youths and youth leaders across the country to sustain the spirit of unity demonstrated during the election and support constructive collaboration between young people and government institutions.

Obaje also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, urging youth leaders and delegates to appreciate their contributions to the emergence of the new National Speaker. With Umar Baba-Yaro now at the helm of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, expectations are high for a new phase of youth engagement, empowerment, national cohesion, and constructive dialogue with government at all levels.

The emergence of the 5th Republic leadership presents an opportunity for the Assembly to strengthen its institutional relevance and provide a stronger voice for Nigerian youths in national conversations. As the new administration begins its journey, attention will be focused on translating the mandate received from delegates into meaningful programmes, inclusive representation, and opportunities that advance the interests and aspirations of young Nigerians.
